How To French Braid Hair — Get Kim Kardashian & Selena Gomez’s Style
In order to make a major splash with your go-to spring and summer hairstyle, ECRU New York stylist Emilie Luciano explained how to french braid the whole head in just ten easy steps.
“Before starting the braid, prep the hair using Silk Texturizing Balm. The balm has enough slip to easily work the braid into the hair and enough grip to help hold the pieces together. Continuously add product when needed as you work through the braid. Be sure to take a 1-inch section starting at the perimeter of the forehead going back, from temple to temple,” explained Emilie.
Next, break that section into 3 even sections and take your left section and cross it over your middle section (making that section your new middle section).
After this, take your right section and cross it over your middle section (making that section your new middle section). Upon completion, Emilie advises to add hair to your left section; on the left side, go an inch below where you started your first section, starting at the perimeter of your hairline and add that hair to your left section.
Next, take your new left section and cross it over the middle (making that section your new middle). Add hair to your right section; on the right side, go an inch below where you started your section, starting at the perimeter of your hairline and add that hair to your right section.
How To Complete The Sexy French Braid
Okay you’re almost done!
Take your new right section and cross it over the middle (making that section your new middle). Repeat steps 5 through 8 (everytime you add hair, go an inch below your previous section and add that hair).
“Once you get to the nape of the head and can no longer add hair to the braid, finish the braid off with a traditional 3 strand braid (left crosses over right, right crosses over left),” says Emilie.
In order to help keep the braid together, finish with either Sunlight Styling Spray or Sunlight Finishing Spray MAX. For a light, soft hold, spray with Sunlight Styling Spray. For a day to night hold, spray with Sunlight Finishing Spray MAX.
Finally, to complete your summer-proof look, take a note from Selena and Kim and finish off your fab braid with a classic Goody Ouchless Hair Ties for Thick Hair in black.
Lastly, channel french beauty icon Brigitte Bardot by bringing all of the attention to your gaze with a classic smokey eye. The last ingredient? A dose of je ne sais quoi!
