Engage! While astronaut Samatha Cristoforetti waited on the International Space Space for an incoming supply ship, she decided to dress up for the occasion. By wearing a ‘Star Trek’ uniform, she not only showed her ‘Trek’ pride — she made history at the same time!

Live Long And Prosper — while looking fashionable! With one wardrobe choice, astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti, 37, decided to go where no one has gone before. Samantha’s outfit helped her break history while becoming the number one Star Trek fan in the world…and beyond!

Star Trek: Astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti Wears Uniform In Space

Samantha made Star Trek history on April 17 by being the first person to wear the iconic uniform in actual space. The Italian astronaut posted a picture from the International Space Station to her official Twitter, showing her wearing the outfit:

We don’t know which is more amazing: the fact that Samantha is tweeting from space or that of all the things she could bring from Earth, she packed a Star Trek uniform. Either way, Samantha raised the bar for fellow Trekkies because there’s very little that can top Samantha’s Star Trek costume in space!

While the Star Trek fandom was excited that one of their own had made it to outer space, Samantha was excited that she’ll finally get a decent cup of coffee. The #Dragon that Samantha mentioned in her tweet was the Dragon-type SpaceX vehicle seen in the background of her picture. That incoming ship contained supplies for her and the rest of the crew of the ISS, which included a special coffee machine from Lavazza, reports the Daily Mail.

Samantha’s Tribute To Captain Janeway

Samantha’s quote “There’s coffee in that nebula,” comes from an episode of Star Trek: Voyager. It was said by Kate Mulgrew’s character, Captain Kathryn Janeway, who made Star Trek history of her own by appearing as the first female captain in the lead role of a Star Trek series. Before Captain Janeway, there were Captain Kirk (William Shatner) Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) and Commander Sisko (Avery Brooks). Samantha was clearly paying tribute to the trailblazing character, not only quoting her but also wearing a replica of her uniform!
