Hands down, Taylor receiving the Milestone Award at the ACM Awards from her mom was the sweetest moment of the night. The country-turned-pop superstar was presented the award by her ‘proud’ mom before thanking the country community for her success.
Taylor Swift, 25, received one of the biggest awards of the night when accepting the Milestone Award at the 50th ACM Awards. There to present her with such a high honor was her mom, Andrea Finlay, who gave an emotional speech of Taylor’s journey to success, starting from when she was a young teen. From her breakout start in country music, now transitioning over to pop, it’s clear Taylor has become much more than just a star — she’s become an icon.
Taylor Swift Wins ACM Award: Singer Accepts Milestone Award From Her Mom
Andrea, who Taylor recently announced is battling cancer, came out on stage to honor her daughter. In a heartfelt speech about how Taylor wrote songs in her room from an early age, Andrea reveals how proud she is of the woman Taylor is today, for learning to to stand up for herself and the things she believes in.
Taylor comes to accept her award and gives her mom a sweet hug before taking the mic.
“Somebody once told me you see who a person is when you give them news they weren’t expecting,” Taylor said, referring to her announcement that she was giving up country to go strictly pop. The “Style singer shares how “grateful” she is to have learned from her country “heroes” because they taught her kindness and respect, leading her to the artist she is today.
Cue the waterworks of everyone in the audience! This was one of the most powerful and emotional speeches of the night.
Taylor Swift’s Incredible Career
It’s safe to say 2014 was Taylor’s year. Her first all-pop album, 1989, saw the largest sales week for an album since 2002, selling 1.2 million copies in its first week. That’s incredible! Not to mention, she’s released several successful singles off the album including “Shake It Off,” “Blank Space” and “Style.”
Let’s not forget Taylor’s country roots! Starting out in the industry at just 14, she became the youngest songwriter hired by Sony/ATV Music. Each of Taylor’s albums were a stepping stone to the artist she is today, crossing over country and pop. Once pinned as the “breakup queen” of music as she’d often write songs about her exes, 1989 saw a whole new Taylor storming into the industry, putting her haters to rest and earning a lot of respect while doing so.
Now, she’s one of the most successful musicians today, and she’s only just getting started. Way to go Taylor!
