When the top 7 took the stage on this week’s ‘American Idol,’ the drama was not limited to the performances. Actually, there was a super awkward moment between judge Harry Connick Jr. and a contestant!
Um, drama! On the Apr. 15 episode of American Idol, we went from 7 to 6 contestants as we sadly had to say goodbye to Joey Cook. However, it was another contestant’s on stage actions– Quentin Alexander‘s awkward altercation with Harry Connick Jr.— that had everyone really tensing up. Check out the totally uncomfortable fight between the two!
‘American Idol’: Harry Connick Jr. & Quentin Alexander Fight
Well that was definitely not the case on the most recent episode of Idol. After Quentin performed a pretty good version of “Are You Gonna Go My Way,” he seemed visibly upset, despite receiving positive comments. When Ryan Seacrest asked what the problem was, he pointed to the bottom two, which consisted of Joey and Rayon Owen and said, “this whole thing is whack.”
As Quentin headed off the stage to his seat, Harry was not going to let Q’s comments go by. “Quentin, if it’s that whack, you can always go home because Idol is paying a lot of money to give you this experience and for you to say that to this hand that is feeding you right now, I think is highly disrespectful,” he said.
‘That Is Whack’
Believe it or not, things only got more awkward from there. Quentin approached the judges table standing mere inches from Harry and clarified his comments. “When I said that this was whack, I wasn’t saying this whole thing was whack,” he said as he spanned the room with his arms. “That is whack… for my personal feelings, it sucks to see two people who I’ve grown to love go home.”
As the crowd erupted into cheers, the awkwardness somewhat subsided as Harry said, “that wasn’t clear.”
What did you think of the altercation? Was Quentin being disrespectful or did Harry misunderstand?
