‘Vampire Diaries’: Elena’s Exit Will Be ‘Hopeful’ — How I Think It’ll Go Down

‘Surprising. Satisfying. Intriguing. Hopeful. Sad.’ That was how EP Caroline Dries explained Elena’s departure from ‘The Vampire Diaries’ — so what does that mean?

The clock is ticking for Nina Dobrev as her days left on The Vampire Diaries are numbered. However, with the extremely brief clues that the team behind the show are dropping, we’re left wondering how exactly Elena will be cut out. And I have a theory.

‘Vampire Diaries’: Elena’s Ending Will Be ‘Hopeful,’ So This Is What I Think

“I think you’ll find her exit very moving and very respectful of their relationship,” Julie Plec tweeted in response to a fan asking about Delena on April 12. Plus, Caroline Dries left a lot to the imagination when she gave our partner site a brief, adjective-filled description.

So, I feel that means one of two options — she dies by saving him, which I don’t believe, or he saves her and that’s why she leaves.

I’ve read many theories and fan thoughts of how Elena will leave the show and there’s one that I agree with and have even expanded on.

Damon (Ian Somerhalder) will give Elena the cure so that the can live a normal life. However, in order for that to happen, he will then compel her to leave town with Jeremy, forget about Mystic Falls, and never return.

This will obviously be extremely hard for Damon but I think that’s a way to show how much he loves her, and how strong their relationship has been — which will make the Delena fans happy. Additionally, Stefan (Paul Welsey) has always wanted the best for Elena and even from the beginning he wanted to get the cure, so as tough as it will be to let her go, I think at the end of the day, he’ll agree it’s best.

You may remember though that Elena wanted Stefan when she was human, so there’s always a chance of him compelling her instead of Damon. Either way, I’m pretty sure that’d be the perfect bittersweet ending. Of course, I want to know what you guys think, HollywoodLifers!
