Poor, girl! After 70 hours of excruciating labor, Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard welcomed their first baby boy, Israel David. Even worse, Jill had to undergo an emergency C-section!
Jill Duggar, 23, and Derick Dillard, 26, had it pretty rough as they welcomed baby Israel David into the world on Apr. 6. Jill’s dreams of having a natural birth at her Rogers, Arkansas home were quickly shattered when she started to experience major complications during labor. Find out what went wrong!
Jill Duggar C-Section: Emergency Surgery After 70 Hours Of Labor
Originally due on March 24, Jill kept herself in good spirits even though the pregnancy wasn’t going as planned.
“I told myself first-time moms often go a week and a half over,” Jill said.
After a little over 41 weeks into her pregnancy, Jill’s water finally broke, but health problems immediately came after. Jill spent 20 hours in painful labor before moving her post from her home to the hospital, once she noticed a slight stain of of meconium (waste of an unborn infant, often signaling fetal distress).
“I was praying to God to give me strength,” she remembered. “I was really scared and nervous, but I was praying.”
When Jill finally got to the hospital, she initially refused Pitocin (a hormone that speeds up labor) and painkillers, but after 70 hours spent suffering intense labor, her baby boy had turned over into a transverse breech position (sideways and upside down), and was experiencing irregular heart rates.
After doctors explained their concerns about Israel’s delivery, the couple eventually decided to have an emergency C-section. Finally, Jill and Derick’s 9-lb., 10-oz. baby was born at 11:49 p.m. Phew!
Check out these pics from Jill, Derick and Israel’s first moments as a family at the hospital.
"When a woman is giving birth, she has sorrow because her hour has come, but when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world." -John 16:21 I feel like I can relate to this verse just a little better now after being with my wife in labor, but then experiencing the joy of our son! This life is difficult, but it's only for a moment, and joy comes in the morning. #nothomeyet #looktoJesus
Jill And Derick: Israel’s Birth Was A Bonding Experience
“I love our birth story because it bonded us so well,” gushes Jill. “I still haven’t changed a single diaper. Derick has been changing them all.”
What a good dad! Lucky Jill, right?
