Wilkommen, Darren! A first photo of Darren Criss in full ‘Hedwig’ has just been released and it is glitter-grunge perfection! Check it out right now!

Darren Criss, we are so ready for you to put on that wig in a box! The former Glee star is getting ready to take over as the title character in Hedwig and the Anrgy Inch on Broadway, beginning performances on Apr. 29. Now, we’ve finally got our first look at Darren in his rock Goddess makeup– and it is truly stunning. Check it out now, if you think you can handle it!

Darren Criss As Hedwig: Photo

Blaine is that you?

Darren Criss is just about to take the reigns in one of Broadway’s biggest shows, Hedwig and the Angry Inch. From the looks of this first photo of the triple threat in full Broadway glory though, it looks like he’s ready!

In the raucous rock musical, we hear the story of Hedwig, the transgendered front woman of a rock band in East Berlin. Hedwig was born a male before undergoing gender reassignment surgery, however, due to an operation mishap, her transformation remains somewhat incomplete (hence the, uh, angry inch).

Darren will be taking over for current star John Cameron Mitchell who, very notably, wrote and starred in the original show when it was performed off-Broadway in 1998.

Big Stilettos To Fill

Hedwig and the Angry Inch is particularly meta, with Hedwig breaking the fourth wall often as the show doubles as a Broadway musical and Hedwig’s personal concert in which she speak directly to the audience and recounts her life story. It is hysterically funny, poignantly sad and, above all else, a rocking theater experience.

Darren will be the most recent performer to step into Hedwig’s stilettos, following an insane lineup which featured John, Michael C. HallAndrew Rannells and, of course, Neil Patrick Harris who opened the production and won a Tony Award for the role in 2014.

What do you think of Darren’s Hedwig makeover?
