He’s not just ‘Iron Man’ — he’s the man of the night! The 2015 MTV Movie Awards celebrated the accomplishments of Robert Downey Jr. by bestowing him their highest honor: the MTV Generational Award!
Congratulations to Robert Downey Jr.! Robert, 50, must have felt like a superhero as he was presented the MTV Generational Award at the 2015 MTV Movie Awards. The stylish actor accepted the award the only way he could — by proving why he’s one of the coolest guys in the world.
Robert Downey Jr.: MTV Movie Awards’ 2015 Generational Award Winner
The Iron Man actor didn’t come to the Apr.12 ceremony alone. Robert’s fellow Avengers cast members assembled onstage to present him with MTV Movie Awards’ most prestigious honor. Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner all helped celebrate Robert’s award and his incredible career. When Robert joined them on stage, they all knelt down in respect for Robert’s legacy!
Even on a stage full of some of Hollywood’s brightest stars, Robert shined with an emotional and inspirational speech about redemption. Robert recounted his struggles with drugs, how he rose to the top, fell from grace and “literally clawed my way back to the top” to be one of the biggest movie stars in the world.
He even made fun of his own past drug addictions, telling the audience to “keep [their] nose clean.”
Wow! Even when it was his moment, Robert showed gratitude to his Avengers cast members, saying that “if a man is judged by the company he keeps,” that he must be a winner because the crew he’s rolling with now.
Robert was amazing, using this chance to deliver an motivational speech to his fans who, like him, may have messed up in the past. Robert proved that everyone deserves a second chance if they’re willing to work for it, telling them to not give up on their dreams!
The MTV Generational Award
The MTV Generational award acknowledges an actor who has engaged the MTV audience throughout his or her career. Just like MTV, Robert made it big in the 1980’s with roles in such 80’s classics as Weird Science, Back To School and Less Than Zero. He experienced a career renaissance in the 2000’s, with roles in Zodiac, Tropic Thunder, the Sherlock Holmes movies and, of course, as Tony Stark in Iron Man.
By being awarded this distinction, Robert joins the group of past MTV Generational Award winners that includes Johnny Depp, Reese Witherspoon, Sandra Bullock, Tom Cruise, Jim Carrey, Jamie Foxx and Mark Wahlberg.
Way to go, Robert! Leave your congratulations for Robert Downey Jr. down below, HollywoodLifers!
