‘Game of Thrones’ returns April 12 for its highly-anticipated fifth season. Since it’s time to head back to Westeros, let’s take a look back at some of the most shocking moments. Get ready. There are so many.
Deaths, brutal fights and shocking kisses — there has been a plethora of shocking moments over the course of Game of Thrones’ five seasons. Seriously, none of us are emotionally prepared for the upcoming season. From the Red Wedding to Ned Stark’s death to the Purple Wedding, it’s time to play a little catch-up before the season premiere.
‘Game Of Thrones’: The Biggest Moments Ever
This episode was just completely devastating. Catelyn pleaded with Walder Frey to let Robb go after the massacre, but her plea fell on deaf ears. Roose Bolton went up to Robb and says, “The Lannisters send their regards.” And just like that, Robb was dead. In a fit of rage, Catelyn killed Walder’s lady. She didn’t suffer long, though. Someone came up to her and slit her throat.
I’m just going to go ahead and get the most shocking moments over with. Joffrey had it coming but watching him die in such a vicious way had me reeling. I never felt sorry for him, but the way he died, damn.
Okay, I know most of you think it’s gross, but I kind of dig these two. Hate me. When they kissed, it was shocking because Littlefinger always keeps me on my toes. They’re playing the game of thrones really well together. Yes, Littlefinger was once in love with Catelyn, but he’s moved on to bigger and better things (i.e. Sansa).
The fact that Peter Dinklage didn’t win an Emmy for this scene is beyond me. After Shae testified against him, Tyrion lost it. He had everyone thinking he was going to confess to Joffrey’s death, but he delivered one epic speech instead. Tyrion told his father that was completely innocent concerning Joffrey’s murder, but he was guilty of “being a dwarf.” Tywin had resented him since the day he was born, and Tyrion had finally had enough.
This was the first real death on Game of Thrones. Honestly, we haven’t really gotten past it. Watching Sansa scream as her father was brutally executed by Joffrey was devastating. After Ned’s death, nothing was the same. His death changed the game.
Tywin had it coming just like Joffrey. It was so great to see Tyrion get revenge on Tywin for treating him like garbage. It was extra amazing watching Shae die because she was the worst. Honestly, I didn’t think Tyrion had it in him, but he proved me completely wrong.
Easily the most shocking, bloody death since the Red Wedding. The Red Viper had basically beaten Gregor when he got a little too carried away. Ugh, when Gregor gauged Oberyn’s eyes and smashed his head in, my heart dropped into the pit of my stomach. So. Much. Blood.
Ramsay cut off Theon’s manhood. I think that speaks for itself. Ouch.
WHO WOULD DARE HARM THIS BEAUTIFUL MAN?! Well, Locke did. In a brutal act, Locke severed Jaime’s sword-hand in season three.
This seems sort of silly compared to all the death, but this scene was so jaw-dropping because of its pure shock value. Tyrion hated Joffrey, but I never expected him to lay a hand on the king. When Tyrion finally slapped Joffrey, the world cheered. And then he did it again.
Well, Viserys finally got the crown he wanted. When Khal poured that piping hot cauldron of a melted gold crown on his head, my jaw hit the floor. Seriously. Holy nuts. Also, Dany watched the whole thing.
Daenerys proved she was a force to be reckoned with. At Khal’s funeral, she places her dragon’s eggs in his funeral pyre. She walks into the flames, leaving everyone to believe she chose to die. Nope. When the ashes settled, she emerged unscathed with her dragons nestled around her.
It’s moments like these when I realize how much I love Littlefinger. Lysa wanted to kill Sansa after thinking she was a threat to her relationship with Littlefinger, but Petyr stepped in. He told Lysa that he had only one woman his entire life — Catelyn. And with that, Littlefinger pushes Lysa through the Moon Door. BYE.
