File this under, sure why not? A remake of ‘Gremlins’ is officially happening, and we’ve got all the creepy deets!
Admit it: you’re excited about this. A remake of the cult classic Gremlins, that campy 1984 film about, well, gremlins is in the works! The original dark comedy was produced by Steven Spielberg and was a surprise hit, thus explaining why the micro-budget flick might be a desirable choice for a revival. So, with a remake officially happening, is Steven on board to produce?
Though the project has seen some roadblocks previously, a reboot of the too-funny-to-be-scary movie is officially moving forward, and some of its creative team is already coming together! Steven Spielberg, who was part of bringing the first film to the silver screen at a small cost, will in fact help to produce the new incarnation of the movie, according to Deadline.
Super promising, right? Furthermore, the film also now has an official screenwriter in Carl Ellsworth who, most famously, wrote Goosebumps! Yup, we are officially on board.
The Return Of ‘Gremlins’
Because the film is still early in preproduction, most details have been kept very quiet, especially those regarding plot. However, since it is a remake of the original, we have to assume it’ll be at least somewhat similar.
To refresh, because hey, it has been a while, Gremlins tells the story of a gadget salesman in search of a special present for his son. One day, he comes across a cute lil’ guy named Gizmo at a shop in Chinatown. The owner of the store agrees to sell Gizmo, but warns the man that it must never come into contact with light or water and he can’t be fed after midnight.
Obviously, because this is a movie we’re talking about here, all of the above does take place, and Gizmo goes on to basically terrorize the entire city.
In other words, yeah, we are ready for this reboot.
