Just hours before Nina Dobrev confirmed she was leaving ‘The Vampire Diaries,’ her ex, Ian Somerhalder, and his fiancee, Nikki Reed, were caught lip-locking and looking more in love than ever.
Ian Somerhalder, 36, was definitely not worried about the future of his hit show, The Vampire Diaries, on Monday, April 6. Instead, Ian looked like he didn’t have a care in the world as he and his fiancee, Nikki Reed, 26, couldn’t keep their hands — or mouths — off of each other during a romantic shopping trip. Their PDA-filled outing just happened to coincide with the news that Ian’s ex and co-star, Nina Dobrev, also 26, was leaving their show for good.
Nikki Reed & Ian Somerhalder: Kissing & Shopping In New Pics
As cute as these two are, maybe they should have kept the PDA to a minimum during this particular outing.
Engaged couple Nikki and Ian could not get enough of each other as they kept their arms wrapped around each other in a store on Monday, April 6. Although these pictures were taken hours before the news about Nina leaving TVD broke, there is no way that Ian didn’t know about her departure — and that makes the timing of his happy-go-lucky moment with Nikki is pretty awkward.
Over the weekend, Nina bonded with executive producer Julie Plec and multiple members of the TVD cast as her final “goodbye” to their TV family. Unfortunately, Ian was noticeably absent from this particular weekend getaway.
However, we do have to give Ian some flack here. Chances are that he knew about Nina’s departure long before anyone else did, so he probably had plenty of time to cope with the huge news.
Nina’s Departure Is Not The End For ‘TVD’
It’s not all bad news for fans of TVD, as CW executives have confirmed that some how, some way, the show will continue on without it’s main character, Elena Gilbert.
“We look forward to the insane and exciting challenge of continuing to tell stories of our Salvatore Brothers and our much-loved and gifted ensemble,” the network released in an official statement following Nina’s personal confirmation that she was done with the show.
Interestingly enough, it was only just recently that Julie also addressed the idea of keeping their very devoted audience entertained as major characters started to say their goodbyes.
“For me, as we shed characters over the next couple of years, there’s a challenge of keeping the storytelling fresh and exciting, and seeing if we can keep the audience excited and invested in the show because it takes a new spin and a new direction that’s entertaining,” she told Variety in an EXCLUSIVE interview.
Apparently, that challenge has been accepted!
