Bill jokingly compared Zayn to Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev in a March 30 online-only clip from his show, ‘Real Time.’ Click to WATCH, and tell us if you think Bill went way too far with this joke.
Whoa. Bill Maher, 59, made jaws drop when he cracked a joke that compared Zayn Malik, 22, to Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. In the web clip, Bill sarcastically complained about Zayn leaving One Direction, but then took things to a whole new level by asking where Zayn was during the horrific 2013 bombings.
Bill Maher’s Zayn Malik Jokes: Compares Him To Boston Marathon Bomber
During his “New Rule” segment, Bill faked grief over Zayn quitting One Direction. “I think after everything we’ve been through, I at least deserved the common respect of being told face to face,” Bill said.
This is when things got crazy. Bill continued, “Just tell me two things, Zayn: Which one in the band were you? And where were you during the Boston Marathon?” Bill showed a picture of Dzhokhar and Zayn side-by-side, seemingly comparing the two because of their appearance.
Yikes. Bill has definitely gone too far with this joke. It’s obviously a joke, but there’s no reason to poke fun at such a touchy subject. Dzhokhar is currently on trial for the Boston Marathon bombings, which resulted in four deaths and over 200 injuries.
Fans were outraged over the joke. The hashtag “#RespectForZayn” began trending worldwide on Twitter once the video went viral.
HollywoodLife.com has reached out to Zayn’s rep for comment.
Zayn has been the recipient of many jokes since he left One Direction for good. On April 3, The Vamps posted a picture and tagged Zayn. They captioned the photo, “Nice of @zaynmalik to pop round during rehearsals!”
It was only The Vamps’ manager, Joe O’Neill, but Directioners completely freaked out over the joke. From the Naughty Boy drama to cheating scandals, the past few weeks for the One Direction have been dramatic to say the least.
HollywoodLifers, do you think Bill went too far with his joke? Let us know.
