Kendrick Lamar is certainly doing it big when it comes to his new material, and the release of his music video ‘King Kunta’ was no different. Rather than just dropping the video on YouTube, he unveiled the clip right in the middle of Times Square!
Any Kendrick Lamar, 27, fans who happened to be strolling through Times Square in New York City on April 1 were certainly in for a treat. The rapper premiered his brand new music video for “King Kunta” on a massive billboard for Beats at the Marriot Marquis Hotel on 46th Street and Broadway, with the music blasting through a Beats Pill speaker that was conveniently set up on the sidewalk.

The video, which was later added to Vevo, shows Kendrick hanging out with his clique on the streets of Compton. The guys get quite the show from half-dressed female dancers while riding around in their pimped-out cars and flashing their expensive bling.
Less than a half hour before the video’s premiere, Kendrick gave fans a heads up on Twitter in case they wanted to quickly make it over to 46th and Broadway. “King Kunta Video. NYC. Beats Billboard. 46th and Broadway. 6PM,” he wrote on Twitter, letting his fans know something big was coming. And so it did!
He later added that a similar event would be taking place in downtown Los Angeles, so both coasts got equally cool video premieres. Awesome!
Kendrick Lamar Shuts Down Sunset Boulevard
Of course, Kendrick is no stranger to taking over the busiest parts of the country — and his fans are digging it! On March 24, hundreds suited up in Reebok gear to go for a run down Los Angeles’ Sunset Boulevard, following an in-motion truck that held the rapper, who performed throughout the 5k trek.
Although only 100 guests were invited to participate in the run, dozens of others joined in throughout the journey, and at the end, fans surrounded the truck as Kendrick finished his show.
“It feels good to see the kids that’s been rocking out with me since day one — since the O.D. days and Section. 80 — bringing that whole energy bacon Sunset in LA,” he told MTV after the performance. “It was a great feeling. I thought it was unique of Reebok to even bring dope ideas [like that] to pull off. But that’s just how it works, from my music to everything I do on the business sides. It’s gotta be something that’s a little unique.
