Can you already hear that creepy theme song? We are officially getting an ‘X-Files’ remake and, not only are the show’s original leads reprising their roles, but so too are some of the original villains!
Fans everywhere are still reeling over the news that we are getting a six-episode miniseries of The X-Files, which will shoot this summer. Better yet, the series will welcome back its original, paranormal-fighting duo, Agent Mulder (David Duchovny) and Agent Scully (Gillian Anderson)! But the character reprisals do not stop there: David has just confirmed that one of the show’s long running bad guys, the Cigarette Smoking Man (William B. Davis) will also return for the miniseries!
‘The X-Files’: Cigarette Smoking Man To Return
Gird your loins– er, lungs!
Iconic X-Files baddy, Cigarette Smoking Man or, more simply CSM, will once again torment Mulder when the series makes its epic comeback. As you may recall, Cigarette Smoking Man was Mulder’s mortal enemy through much of the show’s original run and, obviously, he gained that fetching nickname due to the fact that he was never without his trusty cigarette.
David was the one who shared the exciting casting news while making an appearance on The Late Show on Mar. 31. He also revealed that, along with CSM, Assistant Director Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi) will also return for the miniseries.
A Cult Classic Returns
The cult series aired on Fox from 1993 to 2002 and was subsequently followed up on the big screen with two feature films. The six-episode miniseries will also air on Fox and is set to shoot this summer, though no air date has been announced yet.
“I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,” said series creator Chris Carter, who is on board to oversee the new miniseries. “The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.”
Are you excited that CSM will return for the miniseries?
