Welcome back to ‘Idol,’ Miss Independent! It’s been 13 years since Kelly won the first ever season of ‘American Idol,’ and now she’s returned to where it all began — the stage. She performed her new hit, ‘Heartbeat Song,’ along with another special song on the April 1 episode, on which she was also the mentor!
Who wouldn’t love Kelly Clarkson night? Not only did all the contestants of season 14 perform songs by Kelly, but the 32-year-old new mom took the stage on American Idol to sing her heart out herself! Were you obsessed with her performance?
Kelly Clarkson Performs On ‘American Idol’
Show ’em how it’s done, Kelly.
Between performing basically everywhere the last few weeks, Kelly somehow found time to mentor and perform on this week’s American Idol— and she sounded amazing. Duh.
For her first performance, Kelly took to the stage looking absolutely ravishing in red (I mean, what other color could she wear singing a song about heartbeats?) As she stood there singing to millions at home– into a red, rhinestone mic no less– it was truly astounding and heartwarming to see just how far she and the show both have come.
Then, later in the episode, we were lucky enough to get a second Kelly performance! And this one was extra special because she sang “At Last,” which just so happens to be the song she auditioned with all that time ago. Talk about a full circle moment!
An ‘Idol’ Legacy
Before the episode even kicked off, we got a peak back at Kelly’s epic journey. She auditioned way, way back in 2001, when Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson were still sitting behind the judging table.
We then see a montage of just some of Kelly’s bonkers success since being crowned the first Idol champ. She’s won three Grammy Awards, countless other musical awards and sold upwards of 20 million records! Sorry, Justin Guarini.
Speaking of nostalgia, the past, years gone by, etc. — the youngest contestant on American Idol this season is Daniel Seavey. Daniel is the ripe age of 15, which means he was only three years old when Kelly won it all. Creepy right? Right.
Anyways, we were obsessed with Kelly’s performance. Did you love it, HollywoodLifers?
