Sad news. John Lennon’s first wife, Cynthia, died at home in Spain on April 1, with the couple’s son, Julian, 51, by her side. Find out what happened and how Julian memorialized his mom after her passing.

It’s a sad day for John Lennon’s son, Julian Lennon, 51, who lost his mother, Cynthia Lennon, 75. Cynthia was John’s first wife  — they were married from 1962-1968, with Julian as the only child shared between them. At 75 years old, Cynthia lost her short, but tough, battle with cancer, and passed away quietly at her home in Spain.

Julian was by his mother’s side when she died, and took to Facebook afterward to share a sweet message in remembrance. “You are so beautiful…. X,” he wrote, with a photo of Cynthia inside a heart.

The photo links to a memorial website in honor of his mother, which contains the statement: “Cynthia Lennon passed away at her home in Mallorca, Spain following a short but brave battle with cancer. Her son Julian Lennon was at her bedside throughout. The family are thankful for your prayers. Please respect their privacy at this difficult time.

A memorial video for Cynthia was also included.

Cynthia ended an engagement in 1958 to be with John, and the two eventually got married on August 23, 1962, while she was pregnant with Julian, who was born in April 1963. Around this time, The Beatles took the world by storm.

After years of trouble, Cynthia eventually came home from a trip and caught her husband with Yoko Ono. They divorced in 1968, with Julian being the only child between them. Cynthia went on to marry three more times, but lost her fourth husband, Noel Charles, in 2013.
