So devastating. A 20-month-old boy has lost his life after allegedly being killed in a restaurant bathroom by the hands of his own mother. She reportedly claimed the devil made her do it. How horrific.

A New York City woman, Latisha Fisher, 35, was charged with second-degree murder on March 31 for doing the unthinkable. She allegedly killed her 20-month-old son, Gavriel Ortiz, in the bathroom of a fast food restaurant by smothering him. Truly heartbreaking.

Mother Charged With Killing 20-Month-Old Son — The Devil Made Me Do It

A mother has been charged with murder after police were called to 5 Boro Burger located in Midtown Manhattan, according to New York Daily News. A employee from the restaurant had called the authorities after they became concerned over how long Latisha and her son, Gavriel, were in the bathroom for.

When the employee entered the locked bathroom, they saw the boy unconscious and foaming at the mouth on the woman’s lap and called 911.

When Latisha was asked what she was doing, she allegedly said, “I put my hand over his mouth to put him to sleep.” The employees said Latisha tried to stop attempts by the restaurant staff to perform CPR on the unconscious child.  When medics arrived they was rushed the child to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. So sad.

“I would describe her as soulless,” a law enforcement official told the outlet when asked about the mom’s reaction. “She put her hand over his mouth and smothered him.”

A police source told the outlet that Latisha reportedly “blamed the devil” for the slaying of her son.

Latisha’s Mother Doesn’t Understand What Went Wrong

Gavriel’s grandmother, Merial Fisher, 54, can’t comprehend what would have driven her daughter to do such a horrific thing.

“It’s hard, it’s really unbelievable. I know my daughter loves her son,” she told the New York Daily News. “I don’t know what happened. It’s just so sad. He was such a happy baby.”

Our thoughts go out to Gavriel’s family, friends and all of those effected by this tragedy.
