The Wolves haunted viewers of ‘The Walking Dead’ all throughout season 5. Now that we’ve finally met them, here’s every reason we should be more terrified of them than any other villain on the series.
On the March 29 episode of The Walking Dead, Morgan’s return also provided us with an introduction to The Wolves. They’ve left warning messages and a trail of blood all throughout season 5, and now it’s time to know what Rick and the group will be up against when season 6 premieres in late 2015.
‘The Walking Dead’s Wolves: Season 6’s New Villains
The Wolves are a force to be reckoned with, and they definitely showed us that on the season 5 finale of The Walking Dead. Unfortunately, Daryl, Aaron, Rick, and Morgan may not realize what they are up against just yet.
For comic book readers, The Wolves are one of two upcoming groups of villains: either they are the DC Scavengers or they are The Saviors. Fans have speculated both, but many believe Negan, the leader of The Saviors, is coming in season 6 — which makes them the most likely candidate for the The Wolves.
The Saviors are vicious, relentless killers who would put previous villains like The Governor and even the people of Terminus to shame. For instance, the group’s leader, Negan, likes to burn people who disobey him by pressing a hot iron to their face. This goes hand-in-hand with the idea that The Wolves enjoy torturing people, as we’ve seen so many of their victims in different scenarios — like being tied to a tree and eaten alive.
The Wolves’ Warehouse Also Alludes To The Saviors
One more thing that points to The Saviors is what Daryl and Aaron encountered at the food warehouse during the season 5 finale. In the comic books, Negan lives inside of a warehouse with his many, many wives.
When Daryl inspected the trucks outside of the warehouse he was clearly suspicious, but it wasn’t enough to stop him from prying one open. It ended up being a trap, and when the trucks opened they let out dozens of hungry walkers. Not only was it clever, but it was the first time Daryl’s life was put in real danger.
Negan also likes his group to cover their weapons in zombie guts, so if they shoot or stab someone they become infected — just like a zombie bite.
Although we’ve only met two of The Wolves, there has to be more somewhere. There is no way those two young men were able to take out Shirewilt earlier in the season on their own, and there’s no way they could take out Alexandria on their own, either.
