Amy Poehler & More Turned Down ‘Daily Show’ Host Offers

Mon, March 30, 2015 4:03pm EDT by Add first Comment

Woah! Before a new host was officially announced, it seems that ‘The Daily Show’ made some offers to quite a few big names– and they all turned it down!

On Mar. 30, it was announced that Trevor Noah would take over hosting duties on The Daily Show at some point in 2015. However, Trevor may not have been the first choice for the job. In fact, several other (and much bigger) stars were made offers to host, including Amy Poehler. Check out which other big names said “no thanks” to the Daily Show desk!

Amy Poehler Turned Down ‘Daily Show’

Well, it’s not like they don’t have enough going on as it is.

While Comedy Central seems confident in its choice of somewhat unknown (in the United States, that is) Trevor stepping up to The Daily Show desk, the network supposedly courted some much bigger names before handing him the honors.

Amy, as well as massive comedians Louis C.K. and Amy Schumer were all offered deals to host the political comedy show, according to Grantland‘s Bill Simmons. No word on how far negotiations got with any star, but it’s certainly interesting insight!

They Don’t Need The Work

Of course, Amy, Louis and the other Amy certainly don’t need the extra work, as all three are massive titans in the comedy world. Amy Poehler is coming off of seven seasons starring in and producing Parks and Recreation, and she has also hosted the past three Golden Globe Awards alongside bestie Tina Fey (with whom she will star in this summer’s comedy Sisters).

Louis also has made a huge name for himself in television, creating and starring in his FX series Louie, about to enter its fifth season. He is also one of the biggest names in standup, having sold out Madison Square Garden on several occasions.

Last but not least, Amy Schumer also has anchored her own series. Amy created and stars in Inside Amy Schumer which, somewhat ironically airs on Comedy Central. The sketch-comedy show has already been renewed for a third season, and Amy will star in this summer’s Trainwreck, which she also wrote.

What do you guys think, would you have wanted to see Louis or either of the Amys host The Daily Show?
