‘Once Upon A Time’ Recap: The Author’s Identity Is Revealed

‘Once Upon A Time’ aired one of its best episodes ever on March 29. The Author was finally released from the storybook, and Emma learned all about the terrible secret her parents were hiding.

Once Upon A Time’s March 29 episode was downright incredible. We learned the identity of the Author (sort of), Snow (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Charming’s (Josh Dallas) dark secret about Maleficent’s (Kristin Bauer van Straten) child was revealed and Emma (Jennifer Morrison) finally learned the truth.

‘Once Upon A Time’ Recap: Hearts Of Darkness

The episode started out with Snow and Charming naturally being the worst parents-to-be. They were still so consumed with worry about their baby going evil. Like, chill out. They came across a unicorn and touched it to see into the future. What Charming saw was great, but Snow? Not so much. Older Emma pulled our her heart!

“I’m your mother,” Snow pleaded. “I don’t care,” Emma replied.

Back in Storybrooke, Regina couldn’t just go back to Rumple and the villains without something about the Author. Well, the heroes had a plan. Emma created a forgery of the door from the storybook. Nicely done, Emma! Regina returned with the fake picture, and Rumple figured out that the Sorcerer had imprisoned the Author in the book. They knew that Emma wasn’t going to just hand over the page. Maleficent knew just the thing to break her.

‘Once Upon A Time’ Recap: A Mother Scorned

Before Emma was born, Snow and Charming went to desperate lengths to make sure their baby would be pure of heart. They encountered a peddler who warned them about Maleficent just as they were on their way to see her. Apparently she had turned herself into a dragon and laid a egg. He told them to go another way and head to an isolated cottage. When Snow and Charming showed up, the Sorcerer knew they were coming. He told them about a spell that could save their baby, but once enacted, there was no turning back.

Snow and Charming headed to Maleficent’s lair and found her egg. Unfortunately, they woke her. They grabbed the egg. Maleficent pleaded with them not to take her child. They did anyway because they’re the worst, and on her way out, Snow stepped on the baby’s rattle!

In the present day, Henry had the real page of the Author from the storybook and saw light coming from the page. It was as if the Author was leading him places because he found a key! Before he could go any further, Regina and the girls showed up. Regina forced him to hand over the page, and their mother-son connection proved more powerful than ever.

Henry gave the villains the fake page. That’s when Snow and Charming arrived and basically told him to get the heck. Rude. The villains quickly realized the page was a fake and hit Regina with a sleeping spell.

‘Once Upon A Time’ Recap: Portal Of Doom

Maleficent wanted to alter her deal with Rumple. She was desperate to find out what happened to her child. If Rumple would help her find out, she promised she would get him the page and the Author.

The dragon queen had a valid reason for wanting to know the fate of her child — Snow and Charming stole her child from her. Snow and Charming brought Maleficent’s egg to the Sorcerer, who vowed to send the egg where it could hurt no one. Snow didn’t realize this was part of the deal. She had promised Maleficent she would return her child.

The Sorcerer opened a portal to toss the baby into. The egg started to hatch, and an actual baby was inside! The baby fell into the portal as well as Cruella and Ursula. “Your child is now of pure intent,” the Sorcerer said. Well, Snow and Charming may have saved their baby, but they couldn’t come back from this.

In Storybrooke, Charming wanted to burn the page of the Author to end this drama for good. Snow refused. She couldn’t do that to Henry or Regina. She knew what they had to do — tell Emma the truth.

So that’s what they did. Hook was by her side, but he wasn’t able to soothe his lady love. He tried to hold her hands, but she was like NOPE. Emma was furious with her parents beyond belief. Snow wanted Emma to stop and listen to wait she had to say.

“I’m your mother,” Snow said. “I don’t care,” Emma seethed. Oohhh, boy.

‘Once Upon A Time’ Recap: Hello, Author

Despite not holding up her end of the bargain, Maleficent had to find out what happened to her baby. She handed over the rattle to Rumple, who revealed her baby’s fate. The baby was a girl, and her name is Lily. Even better, she’s alive!

Hook — being the best — found Emma at the docks. They hugged it out. If all else fails, at least Emma and Hook have each other.

Emma was determined to open the door to the Author. She didn’t care what the consequences were. August had some EPIC advice to share before she made any rash decisions. The Author wasn’t the only Author. It was a job, not a task. There had been multiple Authors, including a man named Walt.

The last Author had started to manipulate the story rather than record history. That’s when the Sorcerer and his Apprentice put him inside the book. Emma went for the Author anyway because he still had the ability to alter everyone’s story.

Turns out, it was the peddler Snow and Charming had encountered in the forest! He was a crafty little fellow, and he didn’t want to talk. He distracted everyone and bolted. This should be fun.

HollywoodLifers, do you think Emma will go evil? Were you surprised by the Author’s identity? Let me know!
