This is going to be one heck of a tearjerker. The first trailer for ‘Southpaw’ has just been released, and it’ features Jake Gyllenhaal like you’ve never seen him before. Watch it now!

You know when your heart literally aches? The Southpaw trailer will definitely do that to you. In the film, which will hit theaters in July, Jake Gyllenhaal will fight the battle of a lifetime. As a professional fighter, he has a hard time controlling his temper, however, when his wife (Rachel McAdams) is murdered in front of him, his emotional instability is taken to new heights. Now, with his daughter taken from him, he must find new hope– from none other than Forest Whitaker. Check out the clip!

‘Southpaw’ Trailer: Jake Gyllenhaal Is A Fighter

“I expected a hard fight,” Jake’s character Billy “The Great” says in this first trailer for Southpaw.

“I put my family through a lot,” he adds. Well, that may be an understatement.

“The more you get hit, the harder you fight– I get it,” his wife says to him. “Only now you’re taking way too many hits before you get off.” As she tries to convince him to quit, she attempts to use their daughter as a motive for him to exit the ring, however, her efforts seem to be futile.

As life sometimes goes, though, everything changes in an instant. After losing his cool while a man mocks him, a gun is drawn and Rachel’s character is shot and dies shortly after, with Billy holds her in his arms.

Sobbing yet? Yeah, us too.

Jake Must Get Back On Track

Things only get more heart wrenching from there. Because of Billy’s unstable state, his daughter is taken into child protective services, where she will remain until he is able to demonstrate a proven ability to act as a responsible parent.

To get his life back on track, he enters a training gym, run by Forest. “I’m looking for a job,” Billy says.

However, Forest isn’t so quick to enlist Billy and his hotheaded ways. “You couldn’t handle the rules here, man.”

Ah! Is it July yet?
