It’s official — Craig T. Nelson is back as Coach Hayden Fox and we couldn’t be more excited. It’s been 18 years since ‘Coach’ came to an end, and now it’s set to return with a 13-episode series! So, what others ’90s shows should follow in its footsteps?
Are you ready to see a retired Coach? Craig T. Nelson has officially joined the cast of the revival, which will now show Coach Fox retired, returning to help his son work with an Ivy League football team. The show, which came to an end in 1997 was a huge success so it’s not surprising that Craig would sign on, especially now that Parenthood has come to an end.
‘Coach’ Returns With Craig T. Nelson — But What Else Should?
It seems like TV recycles great shows, and I’m not really complaining. Coach is the latest show to make a comeback, along with The X-Files, 24, and Heroes. But there are more from the Coach-era that I’m hoping also revive.
1. Full House (1987-1995)
The epic show ended with Michelle (Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen) losing, then getting back her memory and DJ (Candace Cameron) headed to the prom with STEVE! So, it’d be pretty awesome to bring it back 20 years after the end and have DJ and Steve married, raising their own kids, while he eats everything in the house. Michelle would obviously also be married to a horseback rider, while Stephanie would be single and having fun still with Kimmy.
2. Dawson’s Creek (1998-2003)
I know this was a little bit later, but it still started in the ’90s, so it counts! Who wouldn’t want to see a spinoff of this — Jack (Kerr Smith) and Doug living with a now pre-teen Amy who they’re teaching about the dos and don’t’s of first dates. I know, the finale already had skipped ahead five years, but this would be everything.
3. Home Improvement (1991-1999)
The only way that this should get a spinoff if Randy (Jonathan Taylor Thomas) returns and it’s a spinoff of his life with Lauren. Then, they could have kids and grandma and grandpa could come over and teach them life lessons, how not to use tools, etc. etc.
4. Married . . . with Children (1987-1997)
This fan favorite show was unlike any others on TV, and pretty much still is. Al (Ed O’Neil) would still be selling shoes and Bud (David Faustino) is still crippled from Kelly (Christina Applegate).
5. Step By Step (1991-1998)
Before Suzanne Somers was Dancing with the Stars, she was Carol in the classic show! So clearly, we need to see where this family would be 17 years later! Frank (Patrick Duffy) and Carol would obviously still be living at the house and Rich (Jason Marsden) and Dana (Staci Keanan) totally get married.
Close runner ups go to Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, Saved by the Bell, and Blossom. What do you want to see come back, HollywoodLifers?
