Amanda Knox Free After Murder Conviction Overturned: Feels “Tremendously Relieved”
“I am tremendously relieved and grateful for the decision of the Supreme Court of Italy,” Amanda said. “The knowledge of my innocence has given me strength in the darkest times of this ordeal.
“And throughout this ordeal, I have received invaluable support from family, friends and strangers. To them, I say: Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your kindness has sustained me. I only wish that I could thank each and every one of you in person.”
We are so happy for Amanda who was facing 28 years in Italian prison if her conviction was not overturned. We can only imagine what a huge weight was lifted off Amanda’s shoulders who had been going through the ordeal since 2007 — when she and her former boyfriend, Raffaelo, were arrested and imprisoned for her roommate Meredith Kercher’s murder. Two years later in 2009, Amanda was found guilty and sentenced to 25 years in prison. They were released in 2011, when their convictions were overturned but again retried in 2013.
Amanda Knox, has more good news in her life as she is getting married to longtime friend, Colin Sutherland, 27, who she has known since middle school. The two became closer when Colin constantly wrote to Amanda while she was in her Italian prison following the trial over her British roommate, Meredith.
Amanda confirmed the engagement via email to columnist Jonathan Martin, who wrote, “Her engagement was disclosed by a source close to the family, and Knox confirmed it in an email, but declined to say anything else,” the New York Post reports. “Her husband-to-be wrote her while she was in prison, and now he has signed up to be stalked by paparazzi, British tabloids and Internet trolls. It must be love.”
