You’re killin’ us Smalls! Or should we say Brett Gardner? New York Yankees players recreated one of the most iconic scenes from the baseball classic ‘The Sandlot’, and it’s pretty on point to the original scene — watch it here!
Who knew the New York Yankees have top-notch acting skills? Or, perhaps they did a lot of rehearsing to replicate a perfect version of the classic scene from the 1993 film The Sandlot, where Scotty Smalls is antagonized for not knowing who Babe Ruth is. This is definitely not something you’ll want to miss!
Yankees: ‘The Sandlot”s Iconic Scene Recreated By New York Yankees
The Sandlot may be 22 years old, but it still hits home with many fans — including the Yankees!
Wearing their Yankees uniforms, we’ve got Brett Gardner who plays the naive Scotty Smalls, Chase Headley and Didi Gregorius as Timmy and Tommy Timmons, Jacob Ellsbury wearing glasses to play Squints, Brain McCann as Ham Porter, C.C. Sabathia as Kenny DeNunez, and Dellin Betances as Bertram Grover Weeks.
The Yankees got very passionate when reenacting the famous scene, and almost had us convinced we were looking at the cast all grown up! Although we would hope that by the time Smalls is grown up he knows who Babe Ruth is.
The recreation is a tribute to the classic scene when poor Smalls is verbally attacked by the boys for borrowing a baseball from his stepdad’s office which is signed by Babe Ruth. Smalls doesn’t think it’s a big deal the ball is signed by him and thinks he’s a woman and not the Great Bambino.
In case you’d like to compare the Yankees version to the actual scene in The Sandlot, here’s a clip of the original scene.
We would love the Yankees to reenact other scenes from the movie, too. We have to say, we were pretty impressed!
