Pop music fans were hit with a harsh reality on March 25, when Zayn Malik announced his exit from 1D, but this may soften the blow. The Spice Girls may be getting back together! During an interview, Emma Bunton hinted at a possible 20-year anniversary reunion for 2016.
Girl power! Yes, if you love the Spice Girls, you should be very excited. The group is actually thinking about getting back together in 2016, as they’ll be celebrating the 20th anniversary of their first hit single. Emma Bunton (Baby Spice) let the secret slip during an interview. See what she said!
Spice Girl Reunion: Getting Back Together In 2016 To Celebrate 20th Anniversary
Emma hinted at the comeback when speaking to Now Magazine. She revealed that she recently met up with her former band mates, Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice) and Mel Brown (Scary Space), and talk of a reunion went from there.
“We love each other and we love performing together,” Emma said of her fellow Spice Girls. This, of course, lead to the inevitable question of a possible reunion, since 2016 will mark the 20th anniversary of their breakout hit, “Wannabe.”
“It’s just when the timing is right because we have our own careers now and we have families, it’s just about getting five schedules together and that’s all it is,” she said.
We’re totally crossing our fingers and hoping that the Spice Girls sort out their schedules in order to make this reunion happen. In addition to Emma, Geri and Mel B, they’ll have to get Victoria Beckham and Mel Chisholm (Posh and Sporty) on board, and do this reunion right.
The Spice Girls first gained international fame in 1996 with their hit, “Wannabe” and then continued their rise to stardom. In 1998, Geri left the group. As a four-piece, the Spice Girls continued until their first breakup in 2000. The group reunited in 2007 for a world tour, but disbanded a year later. They haven’t performed together since the closing ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics, where all five reunited to perform a medley of “Wannabe” and “Spice Up Your Life.”
