Yes, it’s true — Zayn Malik has left One Direction. Now, his mentor, Simon Cowell, has released a statement revealing how ‘proud’ he is of the former 1D singer and how ‘sorry’ he is to see his time in the group come to an end.

Simon Cowell, 55, played a huge role in putting One Direction together and making them who they are today. Sadly, he now has to watch as one of their talented members, Zayn Malik, 22, bids adieu to life in the band and goes his own way to enjoy life out of the spotlight.

Simon Cowell Statement On Zayn Malik Leaving One Direction

It’s a sad day for Directioners, music fans, and lovers of boybands everywhere. Now that both Zayn and One Direction have confirmed that he is out of the group for good, their mentor, Simon, is speaking out about the split.

“I would like to say thank you to Zayn for everything he has done for One Direction. Since I first met Zayn in 2010, I have grown very, very fond – and immensely proud – of him,” the statement reads. It was released on One Direction’s official Facebook on March 25, along with Zayn and the band’s own separate statements.

Despite this terribly bad news, Simon also reassured the Directioners all over the world that the group has plans to continue without Zayn. It’s hard to hear, but it is the light at the end of this extremely dark tunnel.

“As for One Direction, fans can rest assured that Niall, Liam, Harry and Louis are hugely excited about the future of the band,” Simon’s statement ends.
