One Direction Reveals If They’ll Continue Without Zayn Malik — Full Statement

Wed, March 25, 2015 12:52pm EDT by Emily Longeretta 12 Comments

It’s a heartbreaking day for Zayn Malik fans. On March 25, he announced he was officially leaving the band — and the remaining members revealed if they plan on going on without him. Could 1D really remain a band without Zayn?!

Is this the end of One Direction? The band, formed on The X-Factor in 2010, has now gone from five to four members, and we couldn’t be more upset! Zayn Malik, 22, announced on March 25 that he is officially leaving and would “like to apologize to the fans” about letting people down, but has “to do what feels right in my heart.” So, what did Louis Tomlinson, 23, Liam Payne, 21, Harry Styles, 21, and Niall Horan, 21, have to say?

One Direction’s Statement

Here is the statement from the band, shared on their official Facebook page. Their rep has confirmed to HollywoodLife.com this is not a hack and it is official:

We’re really sad to see Zayn go, but we totally respect his decision and send him all our love for the future. The past five years have been beyond amazing, we’ve gone through so much together, so we will always be friends. The four of us will now continue. We’re looking forward to recording the new album and seeing all the fans on the next stage of the world tour.

Simon Cowell, who created the band on UK’s The X-Factor, also released a statement on the Facebook page, thanking the singer for being a huge part of the group:

I would like to say thank you to Zayn for everything he has done for One Direction. Since I first met Zayn in 2010, I have grown very, very fond – and immensely proud – of him. I have seen him grow in confidence and I am truly sorry to see him leave. As for One Direction, fans can rest assured that Niall, Liam, Harry and Louis are hugely excited about the future of the band.

Of course, the fans are absolutely heartbroken — and are literally crying their eyes out around the world.

While we’re extremely sad to see this happen, we love that the band still supports Zayn. Do you think the band should go on without them? Or should they be done?
