It would have been another humdrum day of exhibition baseball as the teams get ready for the regular season. But Will Ferrell, 47, crashed Spring Training and became the sport’s hottest new prospect! Will’s whirlwind turn on the field was not just for his love of the game – he was also raising money for charity! Home run!
Will may not have won the World Series that day but he certainly came out a winner. The funny man partnered up with Major League Baseball and HBO for the Mar.10 event. Together, they raised nearly 1 million dollars for the charities Stand Up to Cancer and Cancer for College! Holy Cow!
And for those of us who wish we were there to see Will in action – don’t worry! Everything was filmed by Funny Or Die for an upcoming HBO special.
We have to admire Will’s moxie because when he got in the game, he really GOT in the game. Play one position? Will decided to play all 9! And why just be on one team when he could be on ten! In fact, Will often changed teams–and uniforms–right in the middle of the game, joining his former team’s opponent!
While half of the league is in Arizona for Spring Training, it still wasn’t easy for Will to get to all of the games. He ended up driving from Mesa to Tempe to Scottsdale, before jumping in a helicopter to fly to Glendale! Way to hustle, Will!
His performance on the field didn’t always bring in the laughs. Fans booed Will when showed up to the Dodgers-Padres game because he was still dressed in the uniform of their hated rival, the San Francisco Giants! But a quick change later and all was well.
At the end of the day, Will had played for the following teams: Oakland Athletics, Seattle Mariners, Los Angeles Angels, Chicago Cubs, Arizona Diamondbacks, Cincinnati Reds, San Francisco Giants, Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres. Phew!
While Will didn’t end up getting signed to a Major League contract, he’s still a world champion in our eyes!
It also seemed that the teams got into the spirt and had some fun playing a game of hot potato while they passed Will around:

It’s good to see people have a grand old time at the ball game. What did you think about Will’s amazing sports display, Hollywood Lifers? Does it get you excited for baseball? Or are you more into seeing Get Hard when it comes out?
