Bow down to the queen! It’s just been announced that ‘Reign’ will finally introduce its Queen Elizabeth, and we’ve got all the scoop on who’s playing the iconic leader!

We’ve been patiently waiting for two seasons now to meet Mary’s (Adelaide Kane) cousin on the CW series, Reign. Finally, now that the show has officially been renewed for a third season, plans to depict Queen Elizabeth have been announced, as well as the actress who will play her: Fifty Shades of Grey star, Rachel Skarsten! So when will we first see the Queen on the regal drama?

Rachel Skarsten As Queen Elizabeth On ‘Reign’

Her majesty!

With a third season officially in store, Reign has unveiled its plans to expand its royal roster, which means a major role for Ms. Rachel! Better yet, we won’t even have to wait until the current season is over to get our first peak at Queen Elizabeth, as Rachel’s character will appear in the season two finale!

We know, we know, so exciting! And just as thrilled about the queen’s impending appearance is series show runner Laurie McCarthy. “I’m delighted to cast Rachel Skarsten as Elizabeth, a female monarch still in her twenties, early yet in her rule,” Laurie said in a statement. “She is a beautiful, cunning and brave mix of opposites: a young woman hardened too soon by life’s events, but vulnerable when it comes to love. A mercenary foe riddled with compassion for her rival.”

A Royal Influence

Queen Elizabeth on Reign, just as in real life, is definitely going to shake things up, according to Laurie.

“The character of Elizabeth, Queen of England, the only living child of Henry VIII and the murdered Ann Boleyn, looms over Mary Queen of Scots for the duration of her life,” Laurie said, per E! News. “Elizabeth has also, without ever stepping onto our stage, loomed over our first two seasons as a forceful and intriguing presence. I have been dying to introduce her to our characters and our audience. Because no single character understands Mary’s unique circumstances more. No character is more of a threat to her happiness and her life. Elizabeth’s debut in the season finale is a catalyst for events in Season Three, when Reign will chronicle the lives, loves and tribulations of three queens: Mary, Catherine, and now Elizabeth.”

Talk about a royal pain (clever pun, I know).

Are you excited to see Rachel take on Queen Elizabeth?
