Are Sam Strike’s Spidey senses tingling? Maybe! Speculation is running wild that the former ‘Eastenders’ star will be stepping into the iconic red spandex. So, is there any truth to the rumor?
The Spider-Man casting rumors are still in full swing– pun intended! Since Andrew Garfield confirmed he would be hanging up the lycra for good, we’ve been waiting with baited breath to see which spry guy would replace him. With an imminent Spider-Man casting announcement for both Captain America: Civil War and the next Spider-Man installment just around the corner, signs are pointing to Sam Strike, 21, as the successor!
Sam Strike As Spider-Man?
So, is Sam Strike making the jump from Eastenders to Spider-Man?
Some telltale signs are pointing to yes! Here is what we know so far:
Sam had been playing Johnny Carter on the BBC soap opera Eastenders up until Christmas when he inexplicably quit the series. The news was followed by a mysterious tweet from his agent which said, “What a day to remember, well done @SamStrike exciting news to follow….” Interesting right? Well there’s more!
Following the news that he’d be leaving the series, Sam himself tweeted that he “started at the gym yesterday in prep for a cheeky new roll id love to tell you about. But can’t…”
Hm, we wonder what kind of role would require a little buffing up!
A Younger Spidey
Sam’s age also makes it seem likely that he might be stepping up as Spidey. As we already know, Spider-Man will be heading back to high school in the new installment.
The upcoming film wouldn’t be the first time Spidey would be shown in high school, however, the current plan is to focus a large portion of the film on his time at Midtown High School, exploring his relationships with other students there.
As we previously reported, a lot is changing within the Spider-Man franchise. Because Sony Pictures is merging with Marvel, Spider-Man can now be shown in upcoming Marvel films, which explains his role in the upcoming Captain America film.
Would you like to see Sam play Spider-Man?
