It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s… Supergirl! And she’s finally gotten her cape! First production shots from the pilot of ‘Supergirl’ have just been released and we’ve got our first look at the lady hero all suited up!
Supergirl is ready to fight crime. Well, she is dressed to, anyway. Production has just gotten underway on the hotly anticipated CBS pilot, Supergirl, based on the classic characters from DC Comics. Now, we’ve gotten our first look at former Glee star Melissa Benoist as the crimefighting heroine. Check it out inside!
Now that’s a hero.
We finally have our first peak at Melissa in her superhero getup and, let’s just say, we’d totally trust her with our lives.
Supergirl is certainly one of the biggest pilots in the running for the 2015-16 season, and it’s pulled top-tier talent for all areas of production. The costumes, for example, one of which can be seen on Melissa in the photo, will all be designed by Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood, who recently worked on Into the Woods.
Will ‘Supergirl’ Be Super?
Supergirl is going full speed ahead with filming set to begin.
Melissa will play Kara Danvers/Kara Zor-El, Superman’s 24-year-old cousin. As the series begins, Kara has just decided to finally embrace her superhero powers, which she has spent years denying.
Along with Melissa, Supergirl will star Calista Flockhart as Kara’s boss, Jeremy Jordan as the villainous Toyman, and Laura Benanti in a recurring role as Kara’s mother.
Also in a very interesting bit of casting, the original Supergirl and Superman Helen Slater and Dean Cain will have roles in the show, though they are being kept very hushed.
On the creative side of the pilot, Greg Berlanti is at the helm who has plenty of experience in the area as he also headed The Flash and Arrow.
What do you think of the Supergirl costume? Are you excited for the series (if the pilot gets picked up, that is)?
