Animal lovers are livid after Derick ran over a defenseless cat with his sled in a controversial new video — and that includes PETA, which sent the ’19 Kids and Counting’ star a strongly worded letter demanding an apology for his ‘disturbing’ actions!
19 Kids and Counting star Derick Dillard, 25, shocked fans when he ran over an innocent cat, apparently on purpose, while sledding with the Duggar family in February. PETA On Derick Dillard’s Cat Video: They Demand Apology For Abusing Cat
Four days after Derick posted the shocking video on his Instagram on Feb. 28, it still stands — with TONS of angry comments from Instagram users. They’ll be glad to know that PETA isn’t about to let Derick get away with his actions.
Here is PETA’s full statement about the incident:

Reality Star Asked to Apologize to Fans for Sledding Into Cat
19 Kids and Counting star Derick Dillard—who recently took to social media with a video of his family laughing as he sledded into a cat—has a few things to learn about how Christians should treat God’s creations. That’s why PETA’s Christian outreach division, whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way,” is rushing a letter to Dillard encouraging him to apologize to his legions of Christian, animal-friendly fans.
“Might doesn’t make right, but that’s the message Derick Dillard sent to scores of impressionable young children,” says Director of Christian Outreach and Engagement Sarah Withrow King. “PETA is asking him to apologize publicly for his actions and remind his followers that Jesus’ command to ‘do unto others’ includes all of God’s creatures.”
And here is PETA’s letter to Derick:
March 4, 2015
Dear Mr. Dillard,
I’m writing to you as PETA’s director of Christian outreach and engagement in response to the video you posted on your Instagram account on March 1, which depicts you apparently purposely sledding directly into an unsuspecting cat. Almost more disturbing than your enjoyment in it was your family’s.
Might doesn’t make right, but that’s the message you’ve sent to scores of impressionable young children and loyal fans. I hope you’ll publicly apologize for your actions and remind your followers that Jesus’ command to “do unto others” includes all of God’s creatures.
Sarah Withrow King
Director of Christian Outreach and Engagement

’19 Kids & Counting’: Derick Dillard Runs Over Cat In Disturbing Video — Watch
As HollywoodLife.com previously reported, Derick launched himself down a snow-covered hill on a cookie tin, seemingly aiming for an orange cat.
Even though Derick can be heard yelling, “Move, cat,” in the video, the reality star doesn’t alter his path and ends up slamming right into the cat. To make matters worse, he and his family seem to think the whole thing is hilarious, as they can be heard laughing in the background.
So what do YOU think of all this, HollywoodLifers? Do you think Derick should apologize for his actions? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
