Talk about immersive marketing! To promote its new series ‘The Royals,’ E! got very creative with an advertising stunt. In fact, you’re going to need to see this one to believe it.
Amidst all the hubbub of Dress Gate on Feb. 27, you may have seen another viral moment hit the web: a man climbing out of a window of the Buckingham Palace, using a bed sheet as the rope by which to lower himself. The kicker? He’s completely naked, with the exception of one striped sock on his left foot. Well, as it turns out, the entire incident was an elaborate stunt for The Royals premiering on E! on Mar. 15! Say what?
‘The Royals’: Naked Man A Hoax
E! is really going all out for its royal new drama, The Royals— and it had people totally fooled.
When various news outlets reported seeing a naked man escaping from a window of the Palace during the changing of the guard ceremony, something smelled fishy– particularly the fact that security likely would’ve had the culprit cuffed and sentenced before that striped sock could get anywhere close to the ground.
“If you’ve been wondering about the latest incident featuring a mysterious, unadorned pair of buttocks seen repelling from the Palace window, then indeed, you’ve come to the right place,” a faux-reporter says in the TMZ-esque video.
A Royal Wild Child
Turns out, the naked guy was escaping from Princess Eleanor’s (Alexandra Park) window after what seems to be a massive blowout, as she too can be spotted in the window, tossing the mystery man’s clothes onto the courtyard below. The princess dramz doesn’t end there, though!
The “leaked” video once again puts the princess in the eye of the media storm, following several recent incidents. “Eleanor’s behavior has become increasingly scandalous over the last few months,” the reporter says as images flash onscreen of Eleanor holding bottles of liquor and flashing her panties (or lack thereof) while out partying.
“One can only wonder how much longer this royal wild child’s reign of error will carry on.”
Okay, admit it, if you weren’t already intrigued by The Royals, you totally are now.
Are you ready for the premiere of E!’s first scripted series? What do you think of the scandalous video?
