Talk about a transformation! A first photo of Eddie Redmayne playing a transgender woman has just been released and you have to see it to believe it!
Eddie, is that you? In the upcoming film, The Danish Girl, Eddie Redmayne, 33, will play a trans woman– the first to undergo a successful gender reassignment surgery in the early 1900s. To play the part, Eddie looks to have gone through a serious transformation himself. In fact, he is basically unrecognizable!
‘The Danish Girl’: Eddie Redmayne As A Trans Woman
After his Oscar win on Feb. 22, Eddie is wasting no time in stepping into his next incredible role.
The Danish Girl tells the true story of Einar Wegener, an artist who later became known as Lili Elbe after transitioning from male to female. Eddie will, of course, be playing the title character, in the film, which is set in the 1920s. Not only will the movie depict Lili’s transformation, it will also tell the love story between Lili and her wife Gerda (Alicia Vikander), an artist who convinces Lili when she is still a man to pose in women’s clothes for her.
The film will be directed by Tom Hooper, reuniting him with Eddie since they worked together on the 2012 film adaptation of Les Miserables.
‘A Feminine Perspective’
Eddie’s work in The Danish Girl is certainly going to be challenging, and Eddie has been preparing to take it on. “We’re looking at everything from a feminine perspective,” he told the Daily Mail. He said the film tells a story of “authenticity, identity and love,” and he also added that he thinks “it’s the most sensitive role I have played.”
This year is already off to an incredible start for Eddie. As as we said, he was just given the top honors at the Academy Awards, winning best actor for his work playing Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything. Doesn’t get much better than that!
