It’s a sad day for anyone that calls themselves a ‘Star Trek’ fan. Though Leonard Nimoy did many incredible things outside of the show, most people will remember him best as the Vulcan who cared from the iconic series. In light of his passing, we’re revisiting his career as Spock that carried over for decades.
Live long and prosper — four words that will always be associated with the man who played Spock on ‘Star Trek’ for generations of fans, Leonard Nimoy. Sadly, on Feb. 27, Leonard lost his battle with end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at the age of 83. 5. Original Spock Returns In New Generation Films
Fans who were pissed that the franchise was being remade by J.J. Abrams quickly let their anger go as soon as Leonard appeared as the original Spock to help Chris Pine‘s Captain Kirk. Can’t beat the original!
4. Spock Visits Sheldon on ‘The Big Bang Theory’
Perhaps no one loves the Vulcan character more than Sheldon Cooper — aka, Jim Parson‘s character on The Big Bang Theory. That’s why it was a true delight when Leonard guest-starred on the show as Spock….’s action figure. Cheesy? Perhaps. Funny? Yes, very much so. It’s just a shame that Sheldon will never get to meet his idol face to face now.
3. Spock and Kirk Fight (LITERALLY!) Over A Woman
In it’s day, this was like, A HUGE deal. Spock never showed emotion and all of a sudden — he’s fighting his own Captain! Over a woman, no less! It’s what the kids would call today a big “OMG” episode and it’s still a favorite amongst fans today.
2. Spock Sacrifices Himself To Save The Enterprise Crew
“The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the one”… but fans definitely needed more than one tissue to get through this scene from the second Star Trek movie. It’s the true testament to Kirk and Spock’s friendship, this moment they share. Perhaps that’s why, in his passing, it’s one of the most shared videos on the Internet.
