‘The Voice’ Premiere — Season 8 Shaping Up To Be The Best Season Yet
Sarah Potenza was the very first contestant to audition for Season 8. With her spunky look and never-give-up attitude, she put her heart into singing “Stay With Me” by Rod Stewart. “I like the fact that this is a blind audition because I am just an ordinary person,” she explained before the big moment.
Wow — all four judges turned around for her and we’re not surprised. Her voice was so unique and powerful! She picked last year’s champion, Blake, to be her mentor!
The next artist to hit the stage was Lowell Oakley – the 19-year-old is a serious looker! He’s adorable and has great style — we were worried he wouldn’t have the voice to move forward but he did not disappoint with his old-school jazz voice! Adam and Pharrell turned around as he sang “Dont Get Around Much Anymore.” Welcome to Team Pharrell, Lowell!
Rob Taylor auditioned for his mom who is paralyzed. He sang “I Want You” and his soulful performance got Christina, Pharrell and Adam to turn their chairs. Rob joined Team Christina!
Ivonne Acero sang “Try” she has a great voice, but sadly, the judges felt it needed a bit of work and she didn’t make it thought to the next round. Pharrell even got up afterwards and gave her some advice about how tight she held her mic. “You have enormous gift, don’t wrap it up like that,” he told her — Pharrell is seriously so cute!
Country singer Cody Wickline got all four judges to turn their chairs with his performance of “He Stopped Loving Her Today.” Obviously, he picked Blake!
Wow — Treeva Gibson’s story was truly remarkable. Both of her parents are deaf and could never hear her amazing voice — so sad. She took the stage with a beautiful rendition of “Young and Beautiful.” Christina and Blake both turned for her and she is now a part of Team Christina!
An adorable Mason Henderson “Riptide” with his ukulele but sadly, none of the judges turned around — common guys! You have to pick the cuties!
Meghan Linsey opened for Blake Shelton 10 years ago — so cool! She sang “Love Hurts” and everyone but Blake turned their chairs. After she chose Pharrell, she said “I can’t believe I just said no to Christina!” — we couldn’t believe it either! Totes thought she would pick her.
Joshua Davis’s wife and daughter were just the cutest! They were so supportive of him. Blake and Adam turned their chairs during his performance of “I Shall Be Released” and he chose to join Team Blake!
Next up was Bryce Sherlow who is in an a cappella group — awesome, right? Just like Pitch Perfect! She chose to sing with music for her audition and her rendition of “Cool Kids” sadly did not get any chair turns. Afterwards, she told Pahrrell that she sang “Happy” for her a cappella group and he asked her to sing it for him right then and there!
Christina said, “Pharrell, go sing it with her!” and he did — so sweet! Best moment of the night hands down! “Dont let this bring you down,” he sang to her. We LOVE Pharrell!
The last contestant of the night, Sawyer Fredricks, blew the judges out of the water with his performance of “I’m A Man Of Constant Sorrow.” “I will be a farmer and I need to, but I would preferably be a musician,” he explained before hitting the stage. He was SO good — wow. We think he could be the winner of this season for sure! That would mean Pharrell would take the crown as well since Sawyer picked him as his mentor.
