Patricia Arquette’s Oscar’s Speech
That’s how you take advantage of a platform.
This year, no one gave a more impactful speech than Patricia Arquette, who won the award for Best Supporting Actress for her work in Boyhood. The room at the Oscars became electric when Patricia turned her speech from the standard “thank yous” into an impassioned request for equality. Patricia said, “we have fought for everybody else’s equal rights–it’s our time to have wage equality once and for all,” and topped off the moment by calling for, “equal rights for women in the United States of America!”
The speech immediately blew up Twitter and the love continued for several hours. Here are some of the most supportive Tweets!
How great is it to see all of these women supporting one another?
Patricia’s speech was obviously very powerful, especially when considering her role in Boyhood, for which she won the award. In the film, Patricia plays a single mother who must endure the struggles and complications of that role, including divorce, financial problems and domestic abuse.
