Graham Moore stunned and inspired the audience at the 87th Academy Awards with his deeply honest acceptance speech for Best Adapted Screenplay for The Imitation Game. The screenwriter moved the crowd with his startling confession that he had tried to kill himself when he was 16-years-old!
Graham Moore gave the Oscars on Feb. 22, one of its highlights with his inspiring acceptance speech. After thanking the Academy and his Imitation Game family including star Benedict Cumberbatch, 38, Graham shocked the audience by revealing he had attempted suicide when he was 16-years-old, and implored young people with similar feelings of hopelessness to “stay strange, stay different!”

“When I was 16-years-old I tried to kill myself,” revealed Graham. “Because I felt weird and I felt different and I felt like I did not belong. And now I’m standing here and so I would like for this moment to be for that kid out there who feels like she’s weird or she’s different or she doesn’t fit in anywhere. Yes you do. I promise you do. You do. Stay weird, stay different.”
The crowd immediately rose to give him a standing ovation, with some celebrities, like Keith Urban, tearing up at his powerful words.
Graham is quite a talented writer. His film, The Imitation Game, has fans and critics alike raving over it. The film tells the story of how British mathematician Alan Turing, played by Benedict, helped crack the enigma code during World War II.

Not only that but the couple is only months away from welcoming their first child! The couple’s engagement was first announced in Nov. 2014. and they revealed they were expecting their first child together in Jan. 2015.
