Neil hosted the 87th Academy Awards, Feb. 22 for the first time ever and his opening monologue was unbelievable! We just want to know if you think he was better than 2014 host, Ellen DeGeneres?
Neil Patrick Harris really suited up at the 2015 Oscars and we have to say that we were blown away! Neil, 41, kicked off the Oscars with a musical number called Moving Pictures and it was epic. He sang and danced in front of a screen which paid tribute to some of the greatest films of all time like Singing In The Rain and North By Northwest but the best part was Anna Kendrick hitting the stage with him. This was a brilliant move by Neil!
Neil Patrick Harris Hosts Oscars & He Was Awesome
Neil is no stranger to hosting a big awards show, he hosted the Emmy Awards in 2009, 2013, and the Tony Awards four times, so needless to say, he’s a seasoned pro. But some of the best parts were his jokes, like when he said “tonight we celebrate the best and whitest, I mean brightest.” Everyone gasped and although it was intense it’s true.
Then he made a Kanye West joke, we loved it! He sang “I secretly hope someone pulls a Kanye West,” we bet Kimye were dying over this one. The only thing that didn’t go over so well was his Oprah joke.
“Congratulations to all of the nominees, in particular the eight best-picture nominees. They have all grossed over $600 million. American Sniper alone is responsible for over $300 million of that. To put that in perspective: everyone on this side is the seven other nominees,” he joked. “And, American Sniper is — Oprah … because you’re rich.”
Well … she didn’t look too happy when the camera panned to her. Come on Oprah, lighten up!
Here’s the bottom line, Neil can sing, dance, act — he’s a total triple threat! Plus, he came out in his underwear! #besthostever.
Neil Reveals How He Prepared For The Oscars
Recently, Neil was talking to Jimmy Kimmel about his preparation to host the show and he seemed a bit worried about which jokes to make.
“Do you make jokes at people because they’re funny….[but] they’re there on their special night and they don’t want to be made fun of,” he said. “But if you don’t do that at all are you too saccharine? Honestly, Jimmy, I’m hoping for a scandal this week. You’re the last hurdle in the award show marathon.”
We think he did a really good job. Neil wasn’t too mean, he said some really funny things and his opening number was fabulous!
HollywoodLifers, what did you think of him as the host?
