After Kanye’s Adidas fashion show, Yeezy Season 1, Fern, the creator of Fashion Week slammed Kanye but now she tells HollywoodLife.com exclusively why she said she was ‘over’ him!
Yeezy, it’s your move! Fern Mallis spoke with HollywoodLife.com, Feb. 20, to set the record straight about her comments on Kanye West’s clothing line and saying that his music and overall attitude weren’t her “style.” She tells us that after seeing Kanye’s response to her on Twitter, she is actually very “impressed” and would enjoy sitting down with the rapper at his suggested venue of choice, The Spotted Pig (the same place he met up with Taylor Swift).
Kanye West: Fern Mallis, Fashion Leader & Critic Says ‘Let Talk’ After Diss
Kanye took to Twitter Feb. 20 to post an open letter to Fern after she said: “I’m kind of over Kanye. I mean, I’m not a fan of his music, and the attitude and the agenda is not my style.”
“I am impressed he responded and I think that was very clever of him,” she told HollywoodLife.com. “And I would look forward to sitting down with him at some point. My mission wasn’t to say anything negative about his design or talent. It was just being ‘over’ the whole scene and craziness … and fashion week is a business.”
Fern says that she’s more than happy to meet him at the West Village hot spot he suggested, The Spotted Pig.
“[I] told him [on Twitter] to let me know when he’s in town and if our schedules coincide let’s meet,” she said. “I appreciated the sincerity of what he wrote and trying to explain wanting to be a designer and the obstacles he has had to overcome.”
But what about her comments about his music and attitude?
“I stand by everything I said … I said I’m not a fan of his music,” Fern said. “We have two very different tastes and there’s nothing wrong with that. It doesn’t mean his music is not fabulous.”
Kanye Responds To Harsh Fashion Critics
In case you didn’t know, this is what Kanye wrote to Fern on Twitter:
To Fern Mallis: I just want you to understand that attempting to do clothing has been very difficult and I have encountered countless amounts of bigotry along the way. I have millions of ideas and I represent a new generation just trying to express themselves in a broken world. I don’t call myself a designer as I was not allowed to go to Saint Martins because I was too famous by the time I realized I wanted to design. Fame is often looked down upon in the design world, so it’s actually been something I had to overcome. All we have are our dreams, and you can step on our dreams and ideas all you want, but we won’t stop fighting. We want to innovate and we will win someday. If you wanna have a drink with me, book a table at the spotted pig when I’m back in NY.
HollywoodLifers, what do you think of Kanye’s response?
