Will Smith just proved that, even though he’s been out of the professional rap game for a minute, he’s still got the chops to spit some very impressive rhymes!
Before he was one of the biggest movie stars in the world, Will Smith was also well known as a rapper. Though these days you’re much more likely to catch him heating up the silver screen than throwing it down with a microphone in hand, that doesn’t mean that he don’t still got it. On a recent appearance on The Late Show, Will gave an impromptu performance, and you need to see it!
Will Smith Raps ‘Gettin Jiggy Wit It’
In a far away time called the late 90s, Will Smith was as famous a rapper as he was an actor.
Well, times change and Will now makes a ridiculous $20 million for every film in which he stars. Much to our Fresh Prince loving hearts delight, though, Will still keeps in touch with his roots.
While walking out onto The Late Show stage, the band started to play Will’s 1997 hit “Gettin Jiggy Wit It.” Rather than immediately assume his seat– ya know, as is customary for guests to generally do– Will asked for a microphone and then proceeded to rap pretty much the entirety of the song.
‘Na Na Na Na Na Na Na’ Nope
As the song reached its signature “Na na na na na na na na” section, Will held the microphone out to the audience, with the expectation that they’d sing the syllables back to him– not asking too much! However, this audience, who should be ashamed of themselves, clearly hadn’t brushed up on Will’s musical cannon and they were for the most part silent.
After the glorious performance, Will finally took his seat next to host David Letterman.
“That was for you,” Will told Dave. Dave was thankful for the gift, since he himself cannot rap.
“Yes you can, Dave! It’s in you!” Will responded.
Um, let’s leave the rapping to you, Will!
What do you think of Will’s rap?
