‘Vampire Diaries’: Caroline Turns Off Emotions, Bonnie’s Back – Episode 15 Recap – Hollywood Life

‘The Vampire Diaries’ Recap: The Best & Worst Day For Mystic Falls

So many emotions, so little time. In the funeral episode of 'The Vampire Diaries,' Caroline was forced to say goodbye to her mother -- and to figure out where she stands with Stefan. Elena (Nina Dobrev) stepped up in the BFF department on The Vampire Diaries to do anything and everything to support Caroline (Candice Accola) after her mom passes -- but quickly realizes she wasn't mourning in the healthiest way.

Not All Love Is True Love

For Caroline, she tried to be herself: making a list of things to do, practicing what to say to people, and preparing for the funeral of her mother every way possible. The whole crew even slept at the Salvatore house to show support (side note: she’s dated all the men in that room). She was determined to get everything done in that day — no matter how much work it would take.

Of course, even though Elena won’t leave her side, she can’t completely focus on saying goodbye to her mother — she can’t stop thinking about her kiss with Stefan (Paul Wesley) and wondering where their relationship stands. Apparently, she thinks the best time to ask him about it is moments before the funeral, in the church, in front of her mother’s casket. Naturally, he avoided it and told her they could talk after. We know it’s because of two things Damon told him: “Caroline wants the real deal, but if you don’t, pull the ripcord before you make things worse,” and “She’s not the one. If she was, you wouldn’t have to ask.”

It’s time for the funeral — which means a lot of ugly crying on my part, and pretty crying on the town of Mystic Falls. The police send off was a powerful one, but not as heart wrenching as Damon’s eulogy. He spent the first half of the episode struggling to write it, and flashing back to his childhood when he was 16 (looking like a 30 year old), and a 10-year-old Stefan was angry at him for not attending their mother’s funeral. He shared that Liz tried to tell him a message for Caroline before she passed but he had stopped her because he told her she’d have the chance to tell her — but she didn’t. So he told Caroline how proud her mother was “and that she should be.”

Caroline: A Bright Light, In A Sea Of Dark

“You’re a beautiful, strong woman, a generous friend, and a bright light in a sea of dark. She said you were extraordinary, and you are, and so was she,” he stated. With that, Caroline stood and sang, “Say Grace,” by Sam Baker.

During that song, we saw Stefan’s realization on his face — and he told Damon afterward that no, it wasn’t the love he felt for Elena or Katherine. “I realize that I may not be able to explain what I feel for her, but it is something. Maybe all love isn’t true love in the messed up way that we’ve experienced it, but I think this could turn into something even better.” Well, I’d say that’s perfectly put. So of course, he had to tell Caroline.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t possible. At the end of the funeral, everyone went to (you guessed it), the Mystic Grill. However, Caroline was in a hurry to leave — but Elena knew something was wrong so she followed her home. There, she figured it out: Caroline was going to turn off her emotions, and there was nothing she could do about it. Literally, nothing, since Caroline snapped her neck before Stefan could get there. And when he did, he found Elena on the floor.

Every Cloud Has Its Silver Lining

Not everything could be heartbreaking in the episode though! Jo and Kai both got extremely sick, and assumed it was because of the cheated merge. However, he was dying and if he died, so would she. So in order to save her, she passed over her magic to him. With that, she found out she wasn’t sick — she was pregnant. Luckily, Alaric was planning to propose so basically, they’re perfect and now getting married.

Also, Bonnie continued her journey back, heading to the Salvatore house in 1903. There, she found the one and only Momma Salvatore. Yes, we knew it was her because Bonnie finally returned at the end and totally jumped on Damon in the best “I missed you” way ever. There, she showed him the video she grabbed when she was being sucked out of the other side — revealing Lilly Salvatore.

Oh, and I can’t forget one more positive in this episode — Matt has decided to become a cop and hopes to enlist Tyler, too. So that means they’ll be in blue uniforms. Yes. Please. Although I’m not sure what happens wehn Tyler has to kill somone. Anyways.

Have you stopped crying yet, HollywoodLifers?
