Emile Hirsch Charged With Assault For Choking Female At Sundance Film Festival
This horrific incident reportedly happened during a Sundance Film Festival after-party at Tao nightclub in Park City, Utah on Jan. 25, sources told TMZ.
“Hirsch appeared intoxicated and asked [movie exec Daniele Bernfeld] why she looked ‘so tough’ and said she was a ‘rich kid’ who should not be at Sundance,” police told the site.
Daniele allegedly told police that when she moved away from Emile to go sit with a friend, the actor came up behind her and started attacking.
Two bystanders reportedly had to pull Emile off Daniele, who remembered “things going dark” after he began choking her.
When police arrived on the scene, Emile allegedly told them he was in a “verbal confrontation” with Daniele, according to TMZ, and consumed 3 or 4 drinks that night. The site goes on to say that police claim the actor appeared intoxicated.
Emile has been charged with 3rd degree felony aggravated assault, which may land the actor in prison for up to 5 years. He was also charged with misdemeanor intoxication.
Emile will appear in court on March 16.
UPDATE: Emile has checked himself into rehab, according to his spokesperson, Robert Offer.
“Regarding the charges that have been brought against Emile today, the facts that I can relay are that he consumed an enormous amount of alcohol on the evening in question and he has no memory of what happened,” Robert told TMZ. “Emile takes these allegations very seriously, and is devastated that any of this has occurred. A few days after the incident, Emile sought help and checked himself into an alcohol rehabilitation facility, where he remains today, to ensure nothing like this ever happens again.”
