This is awesome. The first official trailer for the upcoming film ‘Straight Outta Compton’ has just been released and it doesn’t disappoint.
You might think you know the story behind “Straight Outta Compton,” the smash hit song which incited a cultural revolution in the 80s, but the new film of the same name is still guaranteed to shock you. The movie, from executive producer Ice Cube with star Paul Giamatti, won’t hit theaters until August 14 but to tide yourself over, you can watch the sneak peek right now!
‘Straight Outta Compton’ Trailer
“People are scared of you guys, they think you’re dangerous,” Paul’s character says in this first trailer for Straight Outta Compton.
“But you have a unique voice– the world needs to hear it,” he continues, echoing what would eventually be the sentiments of thousands and thousands of people around the world.
The film will tell the story of the N.W.A., a group of five young men who grew up on the streets of Compton, California which were amongst the most dangerous in the country. To express themselves, they depicted their experiences through music which sternly rejected authority and societal constraints.
Of course, with such controversial subject matter, there was also backlash from the public.
“Your songs, they glamorize gangs and drugs,” one concerned citizen tells the group.
“Our art is reflection of our reality,” a member of the N.W.A. fires back.
‘Straight Outta Compton’ Still Matters
Straight Outta Compton will illuminate not only the rise of the N.W.A. but also the cultural events which surrounded their careers, including the historic beating of Rodney King as well as the ensuing police brutality.
Along with Paul, Jason Mitchell, Keith Stanfield, Aldis Hodge and Alexandra Shipp will star in the film, which will be directed by F. Gary Gray.
