Because the world isn’t scary enough as it is, a ‘Poltergeist’ reboot is imminent. The first photos have just been released and guess what? They’re terrifying.
Are there two words in the english language more creepy than “they’re here?” That’s the iconic (and horrifying) sentence from the 1982 screamer Poltergeist, and to this day, it haunts the collective conscious. Well now, whoever “they” are, they’re coming back when the reboot hits theaters on July 24. The first promotional pics have just dropped and we suggest you don’t look at them if you’re home alone or, honestly, if you live in or anywhere near a suburb.
‘Poltergeist’ Reboot Pics — Creepy 1982 Remake Stills
When Poltergeist was released back in 1982, the world was not prepared for just how terrifying the film would be.
Now, more than 30 years later, fear will strike at the country’s heart again, as a modern remake is coming soon to terrorize our dreams.
Ahead of the official trailer, which will drop on Feb. 5, seven still shots from the remake have been released. Each one is pretty much guaranteed to send a cold shiver down your spine and we have to wonder, if these mere photos from the film are this scary, what is the actual film going to be like?
‘Poltergeist’ Is Back
The remake will be directed by Gil Kenan, with an updated screenplay by Pulitzer Prize-winning dramatist David Lindsay-Abaire. The cast will be headed by Sam Rockwell and Rosemarie DeWitt, playing the menaced suburban parents.
For those who may not recall (or haven’t seen it because it’s too scary–no shame!), Poltergeist tells the story of a family whose home becomes terrorized by ghosts. Though the ghosts initially incite some amusement, they quickly turn deadly when the youngest daughter is “captured” and held hostage by the ghosts, able to communicate only through the white noise from the television.
No big deal right?
