‘Lost City of Z’ Cast: Charlie Hunnam Replaces Benedict Cumberbatch
What’s the opposite of going from bad to worse?
Whatever it is, that’s how we could describe what’s happening here in the actor swapping of Benedict and Charlie for The Lost City of Z. The film, still in its preproduction phase, is undergoing a bit of actor musical chairs as it has yet to start filming.
Benedict had signed on but ultimately had to drop out of the film due to his obligation to Marvel to star in their upcoming film Doctor Strange, as well as other projects from the company.
Charlie Is On A Roll
Charlie’s role in The Lost City of Z comes on the heels of a recent run of successes for the actor. Following the series wrap on Sons, he is curently in the midst of shooting Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur and will also star in the gothic horror film Crimson Peak from director Guillermo del Toro.
Based on the novel of the same name by David Gran, The Lost City of Z tells the story of renowned British explorer Percy Fawcett (Charlie), as he journeys into the depths of the Amazon in the quest for a storied civilization that may or may not exist. Percy never returns.
The film, from production company Plan B, will feature direction by James Gray. Also on the producing side is someone named Brad Pitt (apparently he’s a famous actor).
What do you guys think of the actor change up? Are you happy for Charlie or would you have preferred they stick with Benedict?
