Happy anniversary, SNL! Historic sketch show ‘Saturday Night Live’ is set to celebrate its upcoming 40th anniversary with an all-star lineup. No seriously, you’ve got to see this lineup!
This is how you recognize an anniversary. During a Super Bowl commercial to promote the Feb. 15 anniversary special, Saturday Night Live aired a promo spot which listed a few of the major names that are going to help mark the show’s big milestone. Taylor Swift and Kanye West are just two of the huge stars who will be on hand for the live event– and when we say “huge” we mean huge!
‘SNL’ 40th Anniversary Special Lineup: Taylor Swift, Kanye West & More
Believe it or not, Saturday Night Live has been on the air for 40 (!) years.
Like any anniversary, the 40th is certainly an accomplishment which should be recognized, and that is exactly what SNL plans to do. The comedy show will air a live three-hour event on Feb. 15, and huge names are set to partake.
Along with Taylor and Kanye, viewers can also expect to see Justin Timberlake, Tina Fey, Jerry Seinfeld, Amy Poehler, Tom Hanks, Derek Jeter, Robert Deniro, Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, Kristen Wiig, Will Ferrell, Andy Samberg, Betty White and basically every other talented person in show business.
The Important Legacy Of ‘Saturday Night Live’
If any show deserves to be honored for the ongoing influence it’s had on culture, it’s Saturday Night Live. Besides the obvious fact that it’s launched the careers of quite literally some of the biggest names in comedy today and over the last four decades, it’s also been at the forefront of impact in the cultural zeitgeist on a much larger scale.
Between its poignant political satire (Tina playing Sarah Palin comes to mind) as well as its topical commentary on pretty much all major cultural events, sometimes it’s hard to decipher if SNL is influenced by culture, or if culture is influenced by SNL.
Either way, we certainly can’t wait for this anniversary special!
Who are you most stoked to see on the special? Are you as excited for the event as we are?
