‘The Blacklist’ is back– and it’s getting the Super Bowl treatment! After a winter hiatus that’s lasted for, what feels like forever, the NBC drama returns on Feb. 1, following a little football game that you might be tuning into.
Welcome back, Red (James Spader)! NBC’s hit thriller The Blacklist is finally back after three long months and the network is giving it the very coveted post-super bowl spot this year. So, will the episode’s magnitude be on par with the big game which will precede it?
‘The Blacklist’ Winter Premiere: Super Bowl Episode Will Be ‘Muscular’
When The Blacklist returns on Feb. 1, viewers should expect an episode that will pack a punch.
Executive producer John Eisendrath said that, because creators were aware the episode would follow the Super Bowl, they planned accordingly. “Hopefully we will deliver in the Super Bowl episode both a big muscular event that has a ton of action and threatens the lives of Red, Liz (Megan Boone) and others on the task force,” John told Entertainment Weekly.
“Also, and true for every episode at the core, we hope, that there’s a great intimate, emotional story between Red and Liz, that over the course of both episodes…it’s a two-parter, reveals dramatic, new truths about the nature of their relationship,” John added.
‘Red Always Has A Plan’
In the sure-to-be intense episode, Red is arrested and taken to a secret facility, while Liz and the task force have to track him down without revealing he’s one of their assets. Making things more difficult is the introduction of Blacklister Luther Braxton (Ron Perlman), who has it out for Red.
Sounds like a bit of a dilemma, right? Well, it’s nothing that Red isn’t ready for.
“What would happen it Raymond Reddington was actually captured? Well, did he get caught, did he want to be caught?” John said. “Raymond Reddington never has something happen without a plan. What is the plan that comes with his capture? The fun of the plotting of the episode is to peel back the layers to realize that Raymond Reddington always has a plan.”
