‘Grey’s Anatomy’ continues to break our hearts. The series returns from winter hiatus on Jan. 29 and, with Derek having left Seattle for what seems like for good, could he and Meredith really be calling it quits?
Along with the devastating break up of Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw), the winter finale of Grey’s Anatomy threw us another gut-wrenching blow as Derek (Patrick Dempsey) left for D.C. indefinitely. We have to wonder, ahead of the midseason premiere, what does the future hold for Derek and Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) as a couple, and what does it hold for Meredith herself?
‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Winter Premiere: Will Meredith & Derek Split For Good?
Grey’s is back from winter hiatus on Jan. 29, and while we’re excited for its return, we’re also dreading what the prospects might be for Meredith and Derek.
Ahead of the premiere, show runner Shonda Rhimes revealed what the future could hold for Meredith (and by default, Derek). “For Meredith, this journey is really about her coming into her own as a surgeon, figuring out who she is and who she wants to be,” Shonda told The Hollywood Reporter. Meredith is “standing on her own two feet and trying to be her own person for the first time without the support of Cristina (Sandra Oh) and without the support of Derek.”
‘Fans Should Be Worried About Them’
Okay, but Derek and Meredith will still pull through eventually right? Right? Well, it just might not be so!
“Meredith is trying really hard, and I think fans should be worried about them,” Shonda said. “Whenever people grow in different directions, that makes it much more difficult and that may not be all that Meredith has to worry about.”
Honestly, Shonda, we don’t like the sound of that one bit.
Tune into Grey’s Anatomy when it returns on Jan. 29 to see what the actual fate of Derek and Meredith will turn out to be!
Are you pulling for the couple? Or should Meredith be on her own for a while?
