Ghostbusters Remake Melissa McCarthy

Following months of rumors, it has been confirmed that Melissa McCarthy has officially signed on for the all-female ‘Ghostbusters’ remake. But that good news gets better– wait ’til you hear who else is joining the funny lady!

Following reports, Melissa McCarthy has been confirmed to star in the sure to be rad all-women remake of the 1984 blockbuster hit Ghostbusters. In the film, Melissa will play the Bill Murray role, leaving the roles played by Dan AykroydErnie Hudson and Harold Ramis (who sadly passed away last year) up for grabs. The original film, which was also co-written by Harold and Dan, grossed over $200 million when it opened, and this remake is bound to be huge! So, which hilarious women are stepping up to join Melissa?

‘Ghostbusters’ Casting: Melissa McCarthy Confirmed For Remake

If you thought an all-female remake of Ghostbusters with Melissa couldn’t get any better, you just might be wrong!

Following Melissa’s official casting, The Hollywood Reporter has just announced that joining her will be Kristen WiigKate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, with Paul Feig on board to direct.

We’ll give you a moment to absorb that mind-blowingly awesome information.

All three of those women are uniquely hilarious in their own way, but they have one very important shared quality: they are current or former cast members on Saturday Night Live.

Lorne Michaels really does know how to pick ’em!

Keeping It In The Family

Because the women all have a similar comedy background (including Melissa who got her start in the LA comedy scene prior to making it big in film and on TV), Ghostbusters will hardly be the first time any of them have worked together.

Kate has been killing it on SNL for nearly three seasons now, and she of course plays opposite Leslie, a newcomer to the sketch show this season. Though she was originally hired as a writer, Leslie was such a scene stealer in her on camera bits that she was promoted to featured player.

Most famously, Melissa and Kristen both starred in the 2011 comedy smash Bridesmaids (which was also directed by Paul, who will of course direct both ladies in the upcoming Ghostbusters). The film elevated both women from stars to superstars– and frankly, I cannot wait to see them together again!

What do you guys think of this Ghostbusters cast? Are you excited for the remake?
